ABOUT US

The Central Platform of the Polish Biobanking Network funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Poland is the first free tool in Poland that provides information about collected resources of biological samples to a wide audience. The information submitted to the Platform is available to both domestic and foreign researchers, thanks to integration with European systems.

NUMBER OF SAMPLES

GROWING NUMBER OF BIOBANKS

Collections are made available on the Platform by members of the Polish Biobanking Network (PSB) and the access to information is open to everyone who is interested. PSB is constantly expanding the list of cooperating units. So far, about 50 biobanks have joined the network (the current number can be found in the "Biobanks" tab). These are units of different structural and organizational character and with various research profile. Every unit involved in the sourcing, collecting, storage or testing of biological material can join PSB regardless of the amount of collections or the level of biobank/biorepository development.

DIVERSE COLLECTIONS

The PSB platform provides defining of different types of collections starting from population collections to the ones concerning rare diseases. The unit providing information about its resources can also assign the type of biological material collected in the collection.

DOZEN TYPES OF SAMPLES

In response to the diversity of entities publishing information about their resources, the Platform enables precise definition of the type of biological material collected. It also makes it easier for researchers to search for samples with a specific profile.

ABOUT POLISH BIOBANKING NETWORK

The Polish Biobank Network (PSB) is a loosely formalized union of biobanks interested in cooperation with the consortium running BBMRI.pl project, which aim is to develop biobanking in Poland in cooperation with the European BBMRI-ERIC consortium. The central IT platform prepared by the BBMRI.pl consortium, on which you are now, allows all biobanks that joined the network as a member or observer, to provide scientific researchers from Poland and the world with standardized information about their own biotechnological resources and collected biological samples free of charge.Data on the resources of Polish biobanks, combined with a common catalog system, create a wide and unique offer for international research teams looking for partners for cooperation.

THE IDEA OF BIOBANKING (MISSION)

Biobanks are institutions dealing with the collection, storage and distribution of biological material derived from human. Collecting and cataloguing a large number of standardized biological samples and their subsequent analysis are the future of the development of medical and pharmaceutical sciences, contributing to the advancement of personalized medicine. The idea of biobanking has been recognized by the Times Magazine as one of the leading ideas that can change the world.
